Faithfulness

The driving question that motivates us in our day to day life is this - How do I get what I want? I want what I want and I don’t care what I have to do to get it. We build our lives and base our decisions on what maximizes the most personal happiness or personal welfare for ourselves, and we bounce or bail on our commitments or our promises or even our convictions whenever those get in the way of that - because our ultimate conviction is the conviction of happiness.

This, of course, leads to the fruit of compromise. Why stick to a promise if it makes your life more difficult? Why commit to something that makes you feel sad or leads you to suffer?

This is the pull of compromise in a general sense, but in a specific sense, this call to compromise can be overwhelming for followers of Jesus. We are so often pulled to compromise theologically, convictionally, or morally for the sake of ease.

But the way of Jesus is faithfulness. We are called to see God’s faithfulness to us, to receive Christ’s perfect faithfulness on our behalf, and then respond in faithfulness to the covenant God has established with His people.
