Kindness

We live in a time of bitterness. We are told to withhold forgiveness, put up boundaries, cancel and isolate ourselves from anyone who hurts us or offends us. In response, our culture’s way of dealing with bitterness is “niceness” - a fake mercy we extend that maintains inner resentment with outward false reconciliation.

And yet the way of Jesus, the fruit of the Spirit, is kindness. Kindness is the counter-conditional love of God displayed in our thoughts, words and actions. When others hurt us, mistreat us, or cause us to suffer - we respond in love.

This is how God acts towards us, with loving kindness, and we are called to receive that and act in kindness towards others.
